For Bill G (and others interested) - and TOYS FOR TOTS

Hey there, Bill! We were talking the other night at CHOP. Thought you might like to see what I was talking about - check out my "other" blog at http://success-by-design.blogspot.com/. You may not agree with everything you find there, but at least it will be entertaining. And blunt. (Oh, BTW - remember last year when I suggested you to buy gold, at about $1000 ounce? It's now flirting with $1800...)

For everyone - Cheryl & Stan Page are desperately trying to put together this year's TOYS FOR TOTS event. But they are having a difficult time - it seems they are not getting any help from any of the folks, or the clubs. They really do need your help. We cannot let this event become history. Please contact them ASAP at cherylpage65@gmail.com if you can offer anything in the way of help. It would be greatly appreciated by all.

Thanx

CMP Is Now Resorting To Extortion

A lot of Maine folks (being smarter than most) have rejected the "Smart Meters" proposed by Obama and as put forth by CMP.

So, CMP has taken a page from ObamaCare - penalize those who do not want to be subjugated or forced into submission.

We now are blessed with a "choice" - we can go with the Smart Meter, or a Smart Meter Lite, or we can go with the old standby "electro-mechanical" meter we already have. With one major change - if you want to go with the "electro-mechanical" meter, you will be charged $40 for installation (even thouh it's already installed) and an extra $12/month, every month for something you already have, and are already paying for - the cost of your meter and the meter reader is already built into your bill. So, this is actually double-billing.

Does anyone here recall the old "protection rackets?" You know, the old, "We won't hurt you as long as you pay us for protection." Well, that is what this (and ObamaCare) is - a government authorized extortion racket, brought to us courtesy of the Chicago mob-style of politics.

And they get away with it because they are a monopoly - where else will you get electricity?

Extortion - there is no other name for it.

Settler's Green

The HortKarz calendar has the fibalized info on the Mt Washington Valley Old Car Club's SETTLER'S GREEN show, slated for September 11.

We finally had an opportunity to get to a show this year, at Ossippee Valey Fair. It was really great getting together with so many old friends, and the weather could not have been better.

For those we missed, we hope you are doing well and having a great season.

New Entry

I found the following set of wheels out back in the woods, rusting away. I dragged it out, cleaned it up, repainted it - thinking of entering it in Special Interest. It's currently sitting in our front yard.

Check it out...

Great News if you wake up with aches and sore muscles

Every morning it is a painful chore to get out of bed - it seems my legs, back, arms and shoulders are so sore that I must roll out with hands and knees on the floor in order to get up. And the soreness stays with me for hours afterward.

But that was before...

I know, it's beginning to sound like a commercial, but I'm not touting any specific product brand here - just passin' along a secret I learned that seems to work.

A few days ago I recalled that, when I used to work out heavily at the gym, I would mix up and drink a glass of whey protein (I use chocolate flavor) to reduce the soreness from overworked muscles. So I thought I would try that and see if it worked now, for muscles that ache for a different reason - age.

So, a week ago I drank an 8 ounce glass of whey protein (got Pro Performance from GNC) before going to bed. And when I awoke, I had not a single ache or pain - none. I felt really good for the first time in over a year.

Since then, I have downed a glass each night except Monday night (I forgot). And every morning - except Tuesday morning - I awoke refreshed and muscle-pain free.

Folks, if you suffer from aching muscles in the morning and find it difficult to get out of bed, I would urge you to try this. It's all natural, and, for me, it works. It REALLY works!

Just passin' it on...

Tires & Stuff

Gonna put these up on Craigslist, but thought I'd offer them up here, first.

I have a pair of Michelin 235 65/17 tires with a lotta miles left on them. If someone wants them, it's $50 for the pair.

Also putting up an AllPro 60,000 Btu torpedo heater - great for garage or barn. Only used one tank of fuel (it's a multi-fuel heater). $100 takes it home.

Did you know?

I'm not sure how many of y'all are aware of this, but my "profession" used to be as a builder, specializing in decks, fences and sheds. Since I now have a lot of spare time on my hands, I can offer you a truly great deal on such things, if it is in your plans.

For example, I can build a pressure treated deck for you for as low as $2.50 per square foot over the actual cost of materials (that's about 70% below what others charge). Here are some pix of a double-decker I built for Stan Lenki. And I can build a tongue and groove shed, with two windows and a double door for as little as $3.00 square foot over the cost of materials.

If you are planning any outdoor projects along these lines, get your best quotes, then check with me to see how much you can save. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Sheds up to 12x16, decks up to 1000 square feet.

I have over 40 years experience. I may be a bit older, and slower, but it's quality work. Thanks for your consideration.

I can draw the plans and provide a bill of materials. Permits, of course, would be your responsibility.

I can be reached at ptwoodycrew@aol.com, or 637-2238

The Untold Story

The plan was to have a small birthday party for my wife's (Robin's) 50th birthday. I invited a handful of folks to join us at Pat's Pizza in Windham. God bless the "grapevine" because so many people showed up that the restaurant had to import more tables and chairs. I counted 44 people. (The party room is only supposed to hold 25).

Amazing! And we thank each and every one who showed up to make this a very special event. And it was made even more special because we also commemorated the 70th birthday for a very special guest - Polly Von Herten.

But none of this is the real reason for this post. There was another very special and unusual event taking place last evening, and it is one that raised a lot of curiosity, and resulted in a horde of questions. Rather than having to explain it 44 times, I have decided to use this post to explain it to all at once. And it may help explain why we seemed a bit pre-occupied.

Last night at her party, Robin met two of her three brothers for the very first time. I know this sounds like something from Robert Stack's Unexplained Mysteries where families become reunited after being separated at birth, but it is more like a season of "As The World Turns" - this story would put the soaps to shame.

Without getting into too many details, we received a call just before Christmas. It turns out Robin's Dad, and most of her brothers and sisters, were not her real "blood" family at all. They were actually no relation, except for a half-brother and half-sister. It seems Robin's mom was single and with child, and she married the man who Robin knew as her Dad. But he was not her biological father.

For 50 years no one ever mentioned it until Robin got that call in December. What a shock. To make a long story short, Robin discovered she not only had another father, but also had three brothers, and nieces and nephews up the yahoo.

Until last evening, she had never met any of her newfound brothers. Two of the three showed up at the party along with theirs and Robin's real father, Sonny.

It's not every day a 50 year old meets their family for the first time, so Robin's party was even more special than many who attended could possibly know.

But now you know. And Robin is actually quite fortunate - she now has two families - her Dad's family, who raised her from birth, and her father's family.

Should make for an interesting family reunion, eh?

Meanwhile, I'm just glad that I was able to convince this wonderful woman to spend her life with me. I used to joke that when she turned 50 I'd trade her in for two 25 year old models, but wisdom comes with age and I know the treasure I have in this gal. She is like a paintbrush that adds color to my otherwise greyscale world.

Thank you, Robin, for being my everything.

This is Priceless...

Not many things tickle me the way this did.

From Fox News with Bret Baeir...

A man called 911. "My wife has been attacked by a wart hog and I need an ambulance to come and pick her up."

Dispatcher: "Where are you located?"

Man: "Eucalyptus Avenue"

Dispatcher: "Can you spell that, please?"

There was a long hesitation...

Then the man says, "I'll drag her on over to Oak Street and you can pick her up there."

Priceless!

Received the following request:

"I have 17 of these "NEW" cast resin trophy/plaques, they measure 8-1/2 inches high and wide they can stand up or be hung on a wall. These make great car show trophies. New Slideshow - Rods

OK, so your wife has been telling me you have been spending time in the garage, sitting in your car and going, "Vrooom, vrooom!" You have cabin fever. I understand. Here is a new slideshow of rods (mostly Street Rods) from across America to help you get through it. Enjoy!

Smart Meter

Today CMP came by the house intending to install a Smart Meter. Just so ya know, I sent him packing. I have no interest in allowing the government to determine how much electricity I can use and when I can use it.

Especially when the government is so hypocritical - they want to reduce electrical useage (by force if necessary) because there is a shortage of electricity (California already has scheduled brown-outs). Yet, they push electric cars, and are subsidizing the building of electricity ports (docking stations) for refueling them - at taxpayer expense.

If there is such a shortage of electricity, why are they pushing electric cars? Do you suppose it is BECAUSE they want electric cars, and need to restrict other electrical use in order to make them viable?

As a side note, when I suggested to the meter guy that these meters would enable the government to regulate useage - how much we can use and when - not only did he not deny it, but he also pointed out the need for the government to do so. So now we know the true agenda.

2011 Season

It's comin'! The 2011 season. Are you getting cabin fever yet?

I have been redesigning the HotKarz site - I hope y'all like the new design. Also started the 2011 calendar - not too many listed yet, but there is a brand new show this year in Kezar Falls, and the first show of the season (Messiah Church, Wells) will be April 30th - the earliest ever.

There will also be a new "All Mopar" show in NH this year - info forthcoming, so be on the lookout - got that Jimbo?

Stay tuned - a lot of organizers still putting their info together. As soon as I get more, I'll post them in batches.

Interior Detailing

Hey, Guys & Gals. I know how all you car buffs truly enjoy breaking out all the chemicals and spending hours spiffing up your set of wheels. I understand. But sometimes there's a better way.

Robbie Beaton is attending college so Advance Auto had to cut his hours. And he just got engaged to Amber. Yep, she said, "YES". This is causing a shortage of benjamins, so he is doing some pre-season total interior auto detailing. For only $50.00 he will clean the carpets and upholstery with the extraction method, clean all vinyl and plastic and apply UV protection, and clean inside windows. He needs to make more money to pay his bills.

The season is not far off, folks!

Call Robbie @ 807-5858. He will come to you.

A New Direction

After a lengthy hiatus due to personal issues, I am contemplating a revitalization of HotKarz. However, the personal issues are still present and will keep me from attending too many shows or cruises, so I am thinking of taking HotKarz in a new direction - one that benefits the Car Buffs of Maine while taking into consideration my current limitations.

I do plan on maintaining a complete and accurate calendar of shows, cruises and events in Maine (I have begun the 2011 calendar, so feel free to submit info). And I also plan on carrying news items of interest, write the blog and incorporate pictures that are submitted by readers. But there will be something new, and useful for all.

HotKarz.com will build, host and promote websites for any Maine business (or individual, for that matter) as a part of HotKarz. Sites must have some connection to the automotive field. Here is a (fake & incomplete) example of the kind of work you can expect...

As a reader, you will be able to quickly find the parts, products and services you need. As a business, you will have the ad potential of HotKarz and its placement in the search engines, as well as its popularity among Maine car buffs.

And it will be extremely cost-effective compared to hiring it out, or even doing it yourself. HotKarz will design your site, host it, submit it to the search engines for a very reasonable fee. We will also maintain your site, making any changes you require as needed. The only thing you would need to do is provide the info you want in your website, and choose a web address. Your address can be just about anything, and will take advantage of the HotKarz search engine ranking, such as www.hotkarz.com/YourBusinessName. Each site will be a unique design, and you get to approve the design.

To get an idea of the possibilities, feel free to check out the site I am building for my daughter (still under construction, but much of it is ready to check out) at www.intellibiz.com/criss-vaughn.

This idea is still in the planning stage. It would be a very cost-effective ad medium that reaches thousands of local people who are into cars. Again, a very modest cost to design, host and promote, and a very small fee to renew hosting each year. You can even update your site as often as you wish, and even add pages when necessary.

If you think you might be interested in having your own website on HotKarz, you may email me at ptwoodycrew@aol.com to discuss the possibilities. If I get enough interest to make it worthwhile for our readers, I'll do it. So, don't be shy! And don't waste this opportunity.

Oh, and don't forget to spread the word among businesses that may not yet be HotKarz readers so they, too, can take advantage of the power of the internet.

Wheels of the Ages

I have family photo albums that date back to the tin types of the 1800's. Last night I was bored, so I started going through them (it took all night!), pulling out any picture that showed any vehicle the family owned. I left out the schooner...

I thought it might be nice to share them with y'all, so here they are.

Our Heartfelt Condolences

From Jim and Connie Peacock...

Many of you have met Jim's sister Beth at some of the car shows and some of you already know this cause you were there when the call came in,. Anyway Beth passed away on Friday Jan. 14th 2011 after a battle with Cancer.
