Strange Logic

At the coffee shop this morning, a liberal friend and I were discussing Obama's plan to "spread the wealth". My friend says it is OK for the government to take some of our money and give it to the less fortunate (i.e. less deserving). So I asked, "Why is that OK, when it's not OK for someone who is less fortunate to rob you and say it's because you have more than him, so he is entitled to rob you?"

He was stumped, but only for a couple minutes. Then he finally replied, "The difference, my friend, is that when the government takes your money, it's legal."

Frankly, that makes no difference in my book. If it is virtually the same act, done for the same purpose, then there is no difference. If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, rest assured - it's a duck! And stealing my money to give it to someone who has not earned it is still a crime, no matter who does it.

Anudder Winna....

I guess I am making these things too easy - I've had guesses ranging from Michael McDonald to James Brolin. But the winner is Steve Thompson, who correctly guessed Kenny Rogers.

Oh, well....we'll have a different contest next week.

Thanks for playing.

Oh, I have one more show to hit this year....we're going to New England Dragway for the MOPAR show and drag. They even have a drag class for PT Cruisers!

As a side note, Robert Sanborn (SlowPoke) is seeking pictures of the '05 show at Hodgeman's in New Gloucester. If you have pix, please contact Bob at srobert1@maine.rr.com

Later....

We Have a Winner!

Yep - all Frank Barron had to do was take one look at those eyes, and he instantly knew who this beauty was. For those of you who still do not recognize her, it is Bogey's "other half", Lauren Bacall.

Congrats, Frank.

Well, I guess that was too easy, though about 50 other wrong guesses came in. So here is a new one for you. Same game. Same rules. Same prize. Just a different celeb.

Here are the only clues:

1) It's a male
2) It's not me

Good luck!

Contest

OK, folks, here is the first contest of the after-show season. The winner will receive a free HotKarz.com T-shirt.

The game - and the rules - are simple. I will link to a picture. It will be a picture of PART of a famous person's face. You would try to guess who the person is. If no one guesses within a week, I will post another part of the same photo. You can then copy both parts, put them together, and try to guess who it is. If no one gets it within a week, I will post a third part of the photo, and so on, until all four parts have been posted.

The first person to tell me who the celebrity is will be our winner. That said, here is the first picture. If you think you know who this is, email me.

Here are the only clues I will offer: 1) It is a famous female 2) Her celebrity stems from the cinema 3) She is, in my opinion, the most beautiful woman that ever walked the Earth :o)

Go ahead, folks - tell me who this is....

If y'all get a chance, check out the new homepage format...

Super Garages

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I would like to do a series on the marvelous garages that many car buffs call their inner sanctum. I will soon be posting pix of the first one, perhaps this weekend. And I have already been "summoned" to go and take pix of two more - one in Dresden and another in Richmond. Three down, many more to go.

If you have, or you know of someone who has a garage worthy of a photo shoot, please let me know. I am willing to travel at your convenience. Again, you may keep your identity confidential if you wish, or you can add your own comments about your garage. Your choice. It's your game, folks, and we can play it any way you wish.

And if you are planning a project this winter, please allow HotKarz to feature the progress of your project on our pages, for all to enjoy. Just email me at ptwoodycrew@aol.com for info, or to set something up.

Note, too, that our friends at the Rock 'n Roll Diner in Scarborough now have their own website at http://www.rocknrolldinerofmaine.com/. And don't forget they are making their place available to "cruise nighters" every other Friday, 5-8, with the next one scheduled for tomorrow, 10/24.

Well, gotta go. Thinking about puttin' up those Christmas lights....

Updates

For those who are interested, we now have the latest gallery up, including the Lion's Club New Gloucester show pix, and the Winner's Circle.

I would like to take a moment to introduce all you fine folks to a creative, new website for Maine car buffs, which is run by a new group called "The Road Scholars". Please take a moment to check it out. You will be able to click to their page from this blog (on the left), and the HotKarz.com home page.

And now I would like to solicit a little bit of help from you folks. It has come to my attention that some of you nuts have some pretty righteous garages. I would very much like to share them with all our readers. So, here's the deal: Just get in touch with me, and set up a time for me to swing by with my camera. I'll take pix, and post them in the GARAGES sections of HotKarz.com. You may set the rules for your page - it can be anonymous (we won't advertise whose garage it is), or you can tell the world, and provide whatever info you wish. You can even get in the pix, if you desire. But please, if you have a garage that includes more than a few oilstains on the floor, and you think others might like to see what you have done, please get in touch. I would like to feature at least one garage each month over the winter.

Today, I had the very distinct pleasure of spending the day in such a garage. I took a lot of pictures that I will be sharing with you shortly - probably later this week. So tune in....

Over the winter, it looks like we HotKarz will be keeping afloat. First, there will be at least one weekly contest (with PRIZES!). Then, we hope to feature a different "garage" each month. And it looks like there will be at least one "projects" page, where someone working on a project vehicle will post pix and info throughout the process. I hope more of you will allow HotKarz to post a project page for your own vehicle "resurrection", either major or minor.

And, of course, I have collected several hundred pix I have never posted, and many that no one has seen, so I will be posting new galleries periodically.

Again, if you have a fine garage, or if you know someone who has, please get in touch. I am willing to travel as far as necessary, pretty much any day of the week (being a lazy, retired SOB, I have lots of time on my hands).

Finally - it seems that at least a couple of folks want to arrange gatherings over the winter, so we can all keep in touch. Hopefully, we can arrange a number of these little "socials" in various parts of Maine, so everyone can get to at least one or two. HotKarz will be sponsoring one such event in January, probably somewhere in the Westbrook area. We will keep you all posted as to when and where. Ours will include giveaways to be raffled off. If you want to put out a call for folks in your area to get together, just let me know, and I will post it, and assist in any way possible.

These "socials" need not be anything fancy - it could be just a morning "brunch" somewhere, or it could be as big a deal as y'all want to make it.

Until then, don't forget to stop in here once in awhile, so ya don't miss anything!

Later,

Bill
