Cash For Clunkers

Well, judging from all the emails I am receiving, it appears we are beginning to light a fire under Senator Collins. Now if we can just keep fanning the flames, perhaps she will do the right thing and reconsider her support for the "cash for clunkers" bill.

We all understand the immediate effect that this bill would have on each of us, personally. But it goes much deeper than that. We need to impress upon our politicians that the antique and classic car industry is an important and meaningful hobby. Those involved in our hobby, nationwide, contribute tens of millions of dollars to the economy. And numerous businesses are built around us - auto body shops, parts shops, mechanic shops, and even companies that produce cleaners, waxes etc. Tens of thousands of people are employed by such businesses. And let us not forget the many millions of dollars to support charities, contributed through car shows and events across the nation. Compare all that to the minor and questionable environmental value of the "Cash for Clunkers" bill that will cost you, the taxpayers, up to two billion dollars of your hard earned money.

As you can see, it is not simply a question of whether or not we will have access to parts in the future.

We at HotKarz would like to thank you all for your support in this effort. Keep up the good work, folks! It is never easy to sway a politician - they tend to be stubborn, and have their own "favorite interests" to consider. But if enough of Maine's voters let her know where they stand, it can be done. It's all up to you.

Again, thank you all. See you in the spring! And don't forget - we have begun putting together the 2009 Calendar of shows, cruises and events, so if there are any that you know of, please send the info to us at HotKarz - just email me at ptwoodycrew@aol.com.

We also have two PROJECT pages up, for those interested. If you are working on a project, send along the info and pix for all to share. It may make the winter months seem a bit shorter.

Bill
