Belgrade Update

Just to keep y'all informed, thought you should know that (5) other people reported the same problems with the Belgrade show - most notably, questionable judging and the "good ol' boys network" at work. But many things, like the food, classes and set-up was good.

Here is yet another email:

"Just got back from the cruise-in at the Meeting House Market in Dresden. I had 2 couples and *****(name withheld by Editor) come right up to me and asked me how I liked the Belgrade show. I and they agree with the other e-mails you posted about it. It was a sham. They where set up well, good food, category's and D.J.. But the judging was way off and big time good ole boy network. Just figured I would let you know."

Perhaps the Belgrade organizers will take a hint and make changes in the judging next year. From what I am hearing, that is the main issue - otherwise, a good show. If they don't, they could end up sitting in the field all alone...

Alot of people think that there is more of a level playing field if a car show is judged. This is probably true, if the judging is done correctly. From what I have gathered, to be a car show judge, you must be an EXPERT. I've heard at some of the bigger shows (Amelia Island, Pebble Beach ETC)some of these guys are specialized down to a specific YEAR of a specific MODEL!(I don't know too many people that are considered experts on the 1974 Ford Pinto-do you?). Oh, and by expert, I mean someone who either worked for the factory, a reputable dealer, or someone who is certified (yes, they have certifications)Unfortunately, just seeing one at a show does not qualify you to be a judge! The participant vote system also has many problems as we all know.
The best participant vote show I have seen is the Settler's Green show put on by the MWVOCC in North Conway, NH. The reason is: They make 3 or 4 different ballots with only 6 or 7 classes on each, and mix them up. This way, you could get the same ballot as your buddy behind you, or most likely, you would get a completly different one, therefore breaking up the Buddy system. This is the only show where I can't pick the class winners by 9:45 AM.
The best thing that ANY show could do is to ENFORCE YOUR CLASSES!!!!!
Do not let the guy in the 2007 Mustang choose the best of 2000+ class because he "Can't compete with those '65's" in the Mustang Class-TOUGH! If you don't want to compete with them BRING YOUR MINI-VAN!
It all comes down to this: The shows are supposed to be a good time showing off your pride and joy to like -minded people, If you really need a trophy, go to a trophy shop and buy one!
